A Microsoft SharePoint Foundation compatible application could not be found to edit the document.' Basically, Office 2016 for Mac does NOT install the necessary SharePoint Safari Plugin files. The only solution apparently is to install Office 2011 which I don't have and does not seem to be available for download anywhere.

I installed Office 2011 and that put the SharePoint plugin into Safari. However, I still couldn't edit any files in SharePoint. Any file I try and edit would give me errors 'test.docx cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents or the file name might contain invalid characters' and then below that 'The file is corrupt and cannot be opened'.
